Kowary is located on the south-western edge of Poland, in the Lower Silesia Voivodship. They co-create the land district of Jelenia Góra. The main advantage of the city is its geographical location in the south-eastern part of the Jeleniogórska Valley at the foot of the Karkonosze and Rudawy Janowickie. From the south, the city is protected by the Lasocki Ridge. The central part, located within the Jeleniogórska Valley, is located on the territory of the microregion known as the Lower Mysłakowice. The south-western part of the city, however, stretches over the Karkonosze Foothills belonging to the Karkonosze mountains.
